Second Poverty

It has been a long time since I've posted! Sorry was in Batam! Which is what I'm gng to post about. So on Thursday, 27 Feb, woke up at my usual time and dad sent my mum and I to Raffles Place. I went to my mum's office to lepak cause it was damn early? The view from above, I felt like I was in New York, I need to go there man. Then proceeded to Habourfront to meet my girls for macs breakfast before we board the ferry at 9.30am. Omg you should try the sunrise roll for macs breakfast quite nice! :P Sunrise roll ~ Sunrise roll ~ yumyumyumyum. By it only $4. (to the tune of my liverbread song for those who know haha)

The ferry ride was damn shiok! How long has it been since I took a ferry, the last ferry I took was to Sentosa so just imagine how long that was ago. The ferry ride felt like a roller coaster luh, up down up down. Had a mini briefing about the plans to teach english and I had to brief dem peeps bout my ice breakers. So we reached Batam, the place where we boarded the tour bus, omg smell like shit. We went to the miniature park, which was nothing much other than the horrible hear from the sun. Heng my sunblock was +110spf. Then went to the hotel! It was a 2 star hotel so cant expect much.

Adventure Time!
At least my hotel room had plasma tv? and cable! :D And the aircon wasn't spoilt. Averil and I were roommates we took many bottles of water from the tour agency to store in our fridge, so we could use it to brush our teeth, smart right? Averil's idea. We went to the orphanage and I had a shock of my life.

Okay, orphanage, when you picture it, i see a kindergarten setting kind of place. Instead, the orphanage was a shop house (something like a shophouse in little india) with 2 rooms. God bless them. And the orphanage had 50 children, goodness gracious. How they gonna sleep, how they gonna bathe. Goodness me when I entered the room. It was a normal sized room, and the lightbulb was just that lightbulb, the energy saving one, just that in the centre. You gotta be kidding me. Then the carpet was blue and dirty, it made me claustrophobic, gave me a bad headache. :( But the show still had to go on. We played Blow Wing Blow and Bang! the kids didn't seem to understand my english. so the running of the games were so-so, mehhh.

Lunch time, omg, the packeted food was like, ermaigawd, where's the spoon even. How to eat w/o spoon you tell me. It was Rice with curry sauce + curry chicken + vege (damn small portion of vege) THE PROPORTION OF RICE TO DISHES WAS: 4:1 Like the hell, why so much rice??? This is an experience I will never forget! Like seriously. I feel so blessed in Singapore that I could eat whatever I want in whatever portions. There I was like refusing to eat cause of the rice, when like the kids were enjoying it so much, I'm like "how do you survive." But that's their life, they are actually not complaining, and there I was complaining. Shows what a spoilt brat I am.

Proceeded with the teaching of English and stuff. It was quite stressful because of my claustrophobia, I'm not even like, I don't even have claustrophobia but that enclosed area just gave me that severe headache. :( Then I looked at the kids to see how engaged they were in learning. Even though the English game was not so great, they still screamed and shouted like it was a funfair, like it was so fun for them. So sad to see this girl named Lina, she is like around 6 years old? She cant walk. :( I had to carry her, feel so sadddd and pitiful. :( I tried my best to entertain her by reading her stories from a picture book even though she doesn't understand, she laughed at it.

After 3 rounds of teaching, we proceeded back to the hotel. We had 1 hour to washup, the shower was damn shiok cause I felt damn ew, so when the water came down on me, I felt like I was in the pantene advertisement. "Feel the rain on your skin, no one else can feel it for you." I totally wanted to sing it, but then I realized Averil was in the room. We went for dinner at 6pm! Yayyy hotel buffet. :P Averil and I damn Singaporean auntie, first one to grab the food. HAHAH. Then had a debrief of the day, Ms Gab kept wanting us to reflect and stuff and made Averyn teach us some Indo words. Like Dengarin, Lingkaran, omg I still remember smart or smart? GENIUS.

Then after that, Av and i went to the hotel reception to enquire about the spa in the hotel. DAMN THEIR SERVICE I TELL YOU, THEY SAID 8PM CLOSE THEN SUDDENLY THE NEXT DAY CLOSE AT 5PM LIKE HELLO MAKE UP YOUR DAMN MIND ON THE CLOSING TIME YOU. Then had a mini confessions cum playing cards cum watching tv with snacks session at my room with my girls. :) Then it was sleeping time. zzzzzzzz. So that's Day 1! TMR THEN I UPLOAD DAY 2. In conclusion, I've learned to appreciate what I currently have, thank God I'm born in Singapore and not like in Indo or something worse. I also got to see for myself what poverty really is, I wanna help those kids! Goodbye! :)
